Text PDF tables to Excel: local extraction guide

Select table regions and column boundaries in a text-based PDF, review the extracted values, and export Excel without uploading the document.

Extract a PDF table locally

RowGather supports text-based PDFs: documents whose text can be selected or copied. Open the PDF tool in the extension and choose a local document. The PDF is processed on your device, not uploaded for conversion.

Select the page and table region

Choose a page and drag around the table to exclude titles, footnotes and unrelated text. Inspect the column boundaries and adjust them before extraction. Narrow or merged columns may need manual correction.

Preview before exporting

Compare headers, row order and representative values with the PDF. Correct extraction errors in the preview. Export Excel for text-preserving identifiers, or CSV for another data workflow. The free workflow handles up to 3 pages per operation from one file; Pro provides multiple regions and batch-page export.

Batch pages with consistent layouts

For Pro batches, select the page range and reuse a region only when the table layout is consistent. Review pages where headers, margins or column widths change. Keep separate tables in separate worksheets when their columns differ.

Scanned PDFs and other limitations

OCR is not included. A scanned image or a PDF without a usable text layer cannot be converted by this extraction method. Complex layouts and irregular text ordering require review. Unlock protected files only with authorization; the extension does not bypass document restrictions.
